  • MyHappy.Horse has been created to get rid of feeding confusion! 

    It harnesses the collective knowledge of equine nutrition science from the literature, plus the experience of Dr Nerida McGilchrist (formerly Richards), a PhD in equine nutrition and more than two and a half decades of hands-on experience, to help you get feeding right without having to know a lot about nutrition yourself… to keep your horses truly healthy, happy and performing at their best.

    Our real why is simply we love horses and we want horses to be healthy and happy, either through optimized nutrition with MyHappy.Horse or via our charitable initiatives, where a portion of our income goes to helping working horses, donkeys and mules live better lives in developing countries. 

    We see MyHappy.Horse as our chance to help leave the world a better place for our beautiful equines who give us so much.

  • Nope! And this is its superpower. We are building MyHappy.Horse to ‘feel like’ you are working side-by-side with a PhD nutritionist. You just need to know your horse (the easy bit for most of us 😉) and MyHappy.Horse will help and guide you toward building balanced diets for your horse.

    These superpowers will however be built over time, so in the early stages of release you will need to be willing to put in some effort to create diets for your horse.

    And remember, our team is here to help you. If you get stuck, look for the little Help icon at the bottom of the app screen and you will find multiple ways to contact us there including free weekly Zoom help sessions! 💖

    First, MyHappy.Horse is an app! Yay!!

    And, it asks a LOT of questions to properly get to know your horse. And then, it uses that knowledge to help you build balanced diets for your horses.

    The questions it asks are designed in a way to make them easy to answer and it is far more intuitive than FeedXL.

    Plus, MyHappy.Horse will check in with you in the following weeks and months to help you adjust the diet as your horse and its circumstances may change.

    MyHappy.Horse aims to remove confusion and simplify the entire process of diet analysis for you so both you and your horse can be happy!

  • We believe in making the world better for all horses, not just the ones in our direct care. That’s why a portion of all of our income goes directly to charitable initiatives supporting working horses, donkeys, and mules in developing countries.

    Our first charity we have chosen to support is Egypt Equine Aid. Their Facebook page will show you some of the incredible work these incredible humans do!

    We have chosen this charity because it is Australian (like Nerida) but in Egypt where Nerida’s Mum was born and lived until she was 21 before immigrating to Australia with her family in the 1960’s. And the equines there really need all the help they can get!! Anyone who has travelled to Egypt can attest to this!

    Through this program and others we hope to support in future, we help provide financial resources so that proper nutrition, veterinary care, and improved working conditions can be given for equines in desperate need.

  • By asking you LOTS of questions! 

    In building this tool, our founder, Dr Nerida, really wanted to make using MyHappy.Horse (almost) as good as having a real-life PhD nutritionist create a diet for you. So she went through the process of figuring out all the questions she would ask a horse owner in real life. And then developed ways to capture that same information so that MyHappy.Horse could use it to help you put together beautifully customised diets.

    And the cool thing is, the questions are asked in a way that makes them easy (and we hope fun!) to answer, making the process of figuring out what is best to feed your horse enjoyable instead of confusing.

  • Not yet… but you definitely will be able to! It is a feature high on the priority list once we get version 1 released.

  • MyHappy.Horse uses both the most recent (2007) National Research Council (NRC) nutrient requirement calculations and Dr Nerida’s own daily nutrient requirement equations.

    In the subscribed version you will be able to choose between NRC and Dr Nerida’s custom equations that take into account more recent research and her decades of experience.

    Plus INRA nutrient requirements will be available in the future!

  • While not fully built yet, the Logbook is a place you can keep your horses feeding and health history as well as keep track of appointments and dates for when vaccinations, fecal egg counts, worming or other routine management procedures like hoof care and dentistry are required.

    This feature was born out of necessity to solve Nerida’s own problem of not knowing when her horses had been vaccinated/wormed/teeth done and when they were due.

    The Logbook also keeps track of all the photos you add to your horse’s profile of their hoof condition, coat condition, body conditions score as well as their pasture and hay, so you can look back over years of history at the tap of a button!

    Once this feature is finished, as well as record keeping, the logbook will also help you with recommendations for wormers and vaccines.

    We really don’t have anything else to say here, other than give it a try for yourself and you will see just how simple it is to use. 😄

  • We will have help right at your finger tips, either using Dr Nerida AI to give you instant answers, or our team of hoomans (as Skittles calls us!) will come to your aid when you need us! But truly, MyHappy.Horse is so easy to use you won’t need us much!

    And to help us for the longer term, if you do happen to get stuck somewhere, take a screen shot and send it to us telling us what you found difficult.

    It is one of our missions to make this app ridiculously simple to use and we can definitely use and appreciate your help to achieve that goal!

    Use MyHappy.Horse whenever you are questioning whether your horse is being fed the right thing for their current situation or when you need to change their diet for any reason.

    MyHappy.Horse will also prompt you to check your horse’s diet with changing seasons and will check in with you to see if we are achieving any goals you have set.

    But, unlike most apps, we have no desire to keep you in our app! We want you to come in, add the information or get the information you need and then get out so you can be off your device and present in life and with your horse. 

    There are no dopamine promoting pings or dings, no points, or streaks or anything addictive. It is just there to serve you and your horse whenever you need it.

    Be aware however that we take no responsibility if you get addicted to creating diets for horses… there is a slight risk of this happening! 😂

    You can always choose to use the subscribed version of MyHappy.Horse which allows you to choose and use any feed/supplement ingredients you like in your horses’ diets.

    We are still working out the logistics to do this within the app frameworks but you will be able to transfer a horse to someone else and that opens up that horse’s spot in your app account again so you can add your new horse’s details into MyHappy.Horse!
